Interior Decorating Tips for your Nursery – Geelong

April 2, 2015

Interior decorating the nursery is one of the most exciting times for parents to be as they prepare for the arrival of their newborn. While it can be easy for keen decorators to get carried away with their imaginations, you must remember that nurseries have to be functional and provide a calm, soothing environment for mum and bub.

This also means reducing clutter and not overcrowding the room with books and toys. You can do this by breaking the room into three categories: walls, accessories and furniture.

For your nursery’s walls, choose one colour and add two accent colours, ensuring that the palette is peaceful. Not a fan of pastels? Consider painting the walls white and adding your accent colours that way. For a creative twist, use decal designs or interesting wallpaper on a feature wall. Wallpaper has made a comeback, while there are some great decal designs that look stunning in babies’ rooms.

Accessories allow you to bring in a spirit of fun and excitement, whether it’s a storybook character you could frame on a wall or a rug with personality that your baby can relate to and enjoy. Other quirky touches include personalised cushions with your child’s name on it or letters of their initials, which can be placed above their cot.

Feature their favourite toys in the room but not every toy they own. All the other toys can live in the storage box or basket. When it comes to picking furniture, keep it simple. The vintage look and Scandinavian lines are very popular and perfect for nurseries. Scavenge your local market and furniture supplier for these items, and perhaps pick up a bargain or two.

Most importantly, enjoy the process; Geelong has so many gorgeous baby shops and accessories on offer. It’s always fun bringing together a space that has a sense of identity where your baby can grow and flourish.
